Among Japanese skiers, this is the most popular resort in Japan. The resort sprung to international prominence after it hosted the downhill events at the 1998 winter Olympics.

Happo One is not the best resort of learning to ski or snowboard on as it has very little easy terrain. Even some of the green runs on the course map are quite difficult for beginners.

About 80% of the terrain at Happo One is suitable for intermediates and above.

Happo One has a fairly comprehensive shuttle bus system, making getting to the resort quite easy from most parts of Hakuba (except for the Goryu area). There are also frequent shuttles from Happo to Iwatake and Tsugaike Kogen, the other resorts that are part of the Alpen Resort Group.

The international ski school on Happo One is Evergreen Outdoors, who provide quality instruction in English to international visitors. They are located at the Kokusai Base area, and have an office in the Wadano Visitor Center next to the Mominoki Hotel.

Happo is well served with on piste wining and dining. Of particular note is the Pillar Restaurant at he top of the Alpen Quad which offers great views and a high grade menu. For the kids you can't go past the burgers at Sakka Snow Plaza. An for those after some quality vegetarian cuisine, head to Roots Cafe near the Kokusai Base Area.
